Prologue

She was running like a coward on the deserted road, forgetting her morals. Her father didn't teach her to run like this; he told her to fight for her rights, to fight for the truth. But she was scared, not for herself, but for her son whom she had given birth to just a few hours ago. She was in pain, so much pain, but with no other option, she was running like a feeble person.

Holding her son tightly to her chest, she cried miserably at her fate while running on that deserted road. Her son peeked at her face and smiled innocently, not knowing what was going on with his mother.

She glanced at him and said with a promise in her voice, "Aapki Ammi aapse wada karti hai mere bacche wo aapko sahi salamat apne watan le jayegi."

(Your Mom promises you, my child, that she will take you safely to her homeland.)

Her heart ached as she looked at her son's smiling face, which mirrored his father's—the same onyx eyes, the same thin lips. He looked like a miniature version of his father. She closed her eyes, trying to suppress her cries, and decided that once she left this nation, she would erase every memory she had with him.

But her mind mocked her, reminding her of the horrible truth of her life. What about her son, who was the biggest sign of her having a relationship with him? Who was the biggest sign of her giving her everything to him?

Suddenly, she stopped and looked at her surroundings. Fear exploded inside her heart. She was running on the highway, but it was strange not to see any vehicles on the road. Was it possible?

Reality hit her hard, and her legs trembled in extreme terror. She moved her gaze around and saw the roadside land. It was flat ground with a road attached to it, disappearing into the darkness. She knew it wasn't safe to go there, but given her current situation, she knew she needed to take that risk.

Without thinking too much, she moved her feet and started running faster, hoping to find a safe place to hide.

Her legs tripped over a stone, and she was about to fall. She clutched her son tightly to her chest to protect him from getting injured and fell to the ground with a loud thud. Fortunately, she didn't get hurt.

She tried to get up but couldn't, paralyzed by the extreme fear of being caught by him. It was the most horrifying situation she had ever faced.

Suddenly, it became silent all around her, and she could hear her ragged breaths.

She moved her head fearfully, knowing she was caught. While she was looking around, she heard a loud gunshot followed by the footsteps of people.

She knew she couldn't escape from him, not now and never. Her heartbeat stopped, and tears flowed from her eyes as his words reached her ears in that same deep and seductive voice, "Are you running away from me, love?" More tears started to fall as she listened to his voice.
